Playa Venao is known for its beautiful waves and vibrant surf culture, but it is also home to something even more precious: sea turtles and their nesting grounds. Save the Turtles, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their eggs in Panama, continues to work hand in hand with local communities to protect both wildlife and people.

In collaboration with the Cruz Roja Panameña and Save the Turtles recently organized a certified First Aid workshop for the community of Playa Venao at Eco Venao. Fifteen local participants took part in this important training including Green Venao a landcaping Company, and Blue Venao a residential proyect in Playa Venao, receiving certification in First Aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use.
Why is this so important? Playa Venao is a popular surfing destination, attracting surfers and travelers from around the world. With strong waves and an active beach scene, emergencies can happen. Having trained community members who know how to respond in critical moments can make the difference between life and death.
This initiative reflects Save the Turtles’ broader mission: caring for life in all its forms. Protecting sea turtles and their nests is essential for marine ecosystems, but empowering local people with life-saving skills strengthens the entire community.
By combining environmental conservation with community health and safety, Save the Turtles and the Cruz Roja Panameña are helping Playa Venao become not only a safer place for sea turtles, but also a safer place for everyone who calls this beach home.
Together, we can protect our oceans, our wildlife, and each other.
