Playa Venao : a pet friendly paradise

When you visit Venao, one thing you might notice is the amount of pets and animals around. It is even possible that on some days, you get to see more dogs than actual humans on the beach!

Playa Venao has definitely a few reasons to surprise you. One of them might be because of its extraordinary animal population, not to say community. This amazing surf town is mostly pet friendly, whether you want to bring your furry friends to the beach, the restaurant or the bar, they will probably have other furry friends to play with or simply be welcomed with a bowl of water and even some treats.

If most of the pets around are dogs, we also get to hang out at the beach with cats, sometimes more unusual animals like squirrels, possums, small pigs or even chickens.

It is not uncommon for the dogs of Venao to have their own instagram account managed by their owner, which in some cases, has many followers!

Here are some examples  :

The beach itself is amazing, but even more funny when you can watch the dogs jump in the water or the cats play in the sand, right? Interacting with animals has been shown to have benefits on mental health, as it contributes to reducing stress and promoting good mood (learn more here).

Although hanging out with pets at the beach provides benefits and fun, it matters to stress the importance of being responsible when it comes to bringing pets in public areas. As many popular touristics beaches started prohibiting the dog owners from bringing their pets to the beach, taking some simple measures can greatly benefit the community when it comes to maintaining the freedom of the pets around. For example, those measures include keeping your pet home if it is not fixed and having them on a leash to prevent fights with other animals or escapes.

Top 3 activities to do with a dog in Playa Venao :

  1. Walk to la Playita by the jungle
  2. Hike to the waterfall and point of view in Eco Venao
  3. Play on the beach at low tide

If you are staying in the Venao area and are ready to adopt an animal, we recommend contacting Pro Animales Santeños, an organization in the region that helps rescue dogs and cats in the province.
